Figured I'd do a quick review on the CRKT Sakimori since I've not seen any around. I got this knife with the concept of use being primarily a fighting knife and fun blade. Like all knives I get, I use them for some weeks straight for every knife task so that I get used to the blade.

Initial impressions:

The knife is top quality. The fit and finish is fantastic and the grinds are extremely even. Mine came with a tip that I felt was too rounded (I'm kind of OCD) so I did a quick tip reprofile coming from the belly not the spine. Seriously we are talking mm taken off and about 15 minutes of time from start to finish. The sheath is amazing and I love the retention adjustability.

With Use:

I have used this knife for mostly kitchen and some camping chores just to get used to it. It slices like a dream and I really like the ergonomics of the grip. I can see how it is a great stabber since some watermelons fell prey to it. The O1 steel does patina up very quickly though so beware that you will either have a stained up blade or need to polish after every use (seriously). Edge retention is fantastic on this knife and it is razor sharp with minimal effort.

Here's some patina shots after only minimal use:

Here's a good one month progression shot of the blade:

New

After two weeks of use

After a month of use

Conclusion:

It's a very nicely made knife with great fit and finish. Seems to be a very well thought out design for its intended use, however I've learned its amazing in the kitchen and does well in a camping role as well. If you want an interesting piece that's also tough as nails (1/4" O1 tool steel!!!) look no further.

Thank you Deadbox. I really was impressed with the thickness of the O1 tool steel blade. This blade should be able to be used pretty hard. James Williams did specifically say that you can baton with this blade in his YouTube video. In using the blade, I'd say it would definitely handle it very easily. I'd say the grind on this blade is like a high saber. It has a zero edge, so no secondary bevel. Easy to make wicked sharp

I have one of these along with its big brother the Hisshou and I love both, too pretty for me to put through hard use though. Glad to see it will handle it with just some patina to worry about, thanks for the review.

Beastmode,
Get out there and use those blades! Mr. Williams said they were designed for special forces in Japan. They should be able to take a whooping. Mine has shown that to be true. You are right though, it will ugly up the blade quick. Never seen a knife stain as easily as this one...seriously. You look at it wrong and it patinas.
