I dug up an old thread regarding the ill-conceived CRKT Sebenza and thought it would be interesting to post some pics for CRKT & Sebenza fans. No, I don't own it but a CRKT Sebenza would be an interesting collector's piece. I had to resize the pics:

Here's a pic of the nylon lockbar. Note the piece of metal at the end used to make contact with the blade tang:

Thanks for the pics. Very interesting, but I couldn't bring myself to trust my fingers to it. What was the handle made of? Can you tell the story of how it was developed? Was it a collaboration of some sort?

It was an attempted collaboration between CRK&T and CRK. It failed. Apparently some of the finished knives got out without the approval of CRK. :barf:

I'm not surprised it didn't make it to production. Chris Reeve was probably having a lot of trouble sleeping at night while working on this. ;)

I saw this thread title and thought for sure it was a typo, because no way in hell would Chris Reeve make a knife of such possibly dubious quality. :footinmou

About 1 1/2 yrs ago, I came across a different thread about the same subject, and I, too, thought it was some kind of joke, but no.

Yeah, apparently CRKT collaborated to make an "affordable" version of it, but Chris Reeve wasn't too happy with how the model turned out and it died a quick death.

It kinda reminds me of what Schrade did with the Lake & Walker model. Nice idea, but what a piece of crap!

I can't comment on this particular knife, but I think the idea isn't a bad one, Spyderco now has the ATR in stainless handle for less then the Ti version.

A genuine Sebenza is one of those things I'll probably never be able to afford. With a cheaper clone, at least I could pretend... :p

It wasn't a bad idea at all, but the choice in handle materials and the reliability of the locking mechanism are what killed the project. I'm sure it would have functioned as a light use knife but it would have never lived up to the "Sebenza" name in hard use.
