Just saw the video when this knife was announced in March 2019 or whenever it was. The opening mechanism was said to be one of those rare game changing innovations for the knife making industry.

I wasn't really into folder nerdism then but getting into folders more now.

Did this mechanism live up to the hype??

Worth the expense?

I noticed this mech as well, but I wish it was on a different blade profile. As it is, I don't want the knife it's on just to try it. But, I'm curious how well it works in case they get it into more models.

I actually like the design of the knife myself, but the blade steel is a turn off to me especially for the price.

As far as I can tell, it doesn't do anything functionally different or better than a button lock aside from making the pivot area the release button (if that's an advantage to you). It's also made by CRKT, which to many of us here means it will never live up to its potential.

Great knife. I've had no issues with it.

A few reviewers have mentioned that when pressing the lock button, one must make sure other parts of hand are not in way of the mechanism coming out of the other side of the knife.

Any input on this ?

Doesn't sound like anyone has had their world rocked by this knife.

Gotta be honest, not a folder guy but stumbled across the ad and thought I must have one.

The "Lock bar" does protrude about an 1/8" when closing the knife, but I'm not sure how it's really an issue, unless the user is closing the knife while holding it in some sort of odd pinch-grip...

I had one for a short period. No issues from a use standpoint. It functioned fine, but it was not a game changer in my eyes. Worked fine.

The price is going to turn a lot of people off, both enthusiasts and average knife users. Enthusiasts know the value for materials isn't there and know what crkt's reputation is, even though they desire to try a new innovative lock. Average knife users don't care about the innovative lock, look at that price, and say "hell no". They can get a knife seemingly just as good for far less, from the same company.

Crkt paints themselves in a corner with this sort of stuff.

I want an excuse to buy this knife just to try the lock. I even have a slightly higher opinion of crkt than many people here. But $120 for some second rate wannabe 420hc not heat treated by bose? Cant do it.

What is crazy, is I think they could have done this MUCH better. I think they want it to cost more just because the lock. I realize many companies with specialty locks dont let them go for under $100, and tend to be more $150-200. But they use s30v steel or better usually.

From what ive seen crkt put out, they should be able to match this lock with 8cr steel for around $75, maybe less. They'd be the only well known company selling a specialty lock at that price point. And I'd buy one.

1.4116 is the equivalent to Chinese 5cr. Same steel. The recipe is german, but I'd bet dollars to donuts this knife is made with Chinese 5cr. Not outright bad, but for $120? No way. The lock could be made with magic unicorn farts but the steel is not worth that price. I just bought a nice little paring knife in 1.4116 (Chinese 5cr). It is great at $10. Not great at $20. And a folding knife in the same steel and a cool lock at $120? What is crkt thinking?

I could see $75 being reasonable with 8cr.

Want specialty lock that’s proven? Get a cold steel lawman, or code 4 or similar models for as low as $75, comes with S35VN too. Btw cold steel sells their knives with 1.4116 for $20.

CRKT why can’t you guys just get your shizz together? They are as usual sitting on a treasure trove of outstanding designs. Of course they have to build them in a way that is offensive to a knife collector/aficionado. Especially considering straight up Chinese brand knives at prices even lower than CRKT.

I would be happy to see CRKT do an upgrade brand sort of like Real Steel is to San Ren Mu.

I haven't handled this knife but the lock looks massively thick. It doesn't look like something that would adapt well to thin knife designs.

Real steel griffin comes with a button lock that is perfection. That knife is competition for a 940 IMO.
