The SpareTool is a great EDC gadget for the money. I'll be playing with it more with it in the future.

One thing I for sure will be doing is this: Imagine if you will, scavenging for wood in an urban environment, not much to be found, right?
Shipping pallets EVERYWHERE!
Use the prybar end to break the pallet down, pop out nails and staples. Smaller boards can be battoned down, using another plank as a batton, and broken down into kindling. The wharncliffe blade makes great feather sticks to boot. Hit the feather sticks with a lighter or PJCBs & Firesteel. Fire is a useful tool even in an urban survival situation, and the I think the SpareTool is set up to tackle that task perfectly.

I just picked up one of these myself and would have to agree. The only thing I worry about is losing the screwdriver bit that sits in the center of the handle; it's not captured as firmly as I would prefer.

Nice survival kit!

when these first came out, the fellow that invented it, Raleigh Tabor, sent me one. I carry it daily in my Maxpedition bag.

I would put some gun wrap on the handle, to keep that bit secure.

Re: hard use, It does have little nibs and protrusions everywhere, and you have to use it with the sheath on when prying, but I think both of those issues would be more dangerous to your hand than the blade. Cord wrap for use might be an option. The wharncliffe tip is pretty fine, not as strong as like a tanto tip or something. However, for a small, inexpensive tool like this if you really mangle the thing using it for an emergency, buy another later on. That's where it fits in my kit at least, as a back up to the Becker Necker, for prying and less blade friendly tasks. Keeping the primary in top shape. All on body EDC carry.
