does anyone carry the CRKT stiff kiss MDP for defense? how do you usually carry it? i have had one for about 6 months and prefer it to a folder, it's cheap ($20) and rides just right in the left hand front pocket. i have pretty much stopped carrying a folder in favor of this. any feedback/ideas??

Be careful about carrying a fixed blade for defensive use, it may be illegal. I have a Stiff KISS that I carried for awhile, usually as a neck knife but I found I couldn't get to it fast enough. A good folder is a option, but I thin if you are into the Stiff KISS try carrying it in the small of your back...easy to conceal, easy to get to with either hand. Stay Safe!

Had a Stiff KISS MDP but gave it away. It wasn't a bad knife, but did have a few drawbacks which kept me from using it for anything.

It's main purpose is as a self-defense knife. It even advertises it as such in the CRKT brochures. However, here are some drawbacks as a daily carry:

1. It's quite obtrusive as its handle protrudes out of the hard sheath.

2. Like most skeleton knives, a lack of a proper grip makes it a bit hazardous.

3. Like most KISS knives, it has one flat side, and one beveled side. This sometimes makes accurate cutting cumbersome.

Here are some pluses:

1. Inexpensive. Make a fun knife to thrash around.

2. Although CRKT would get really miffed at the suggestion, it is flat and balanced enough to double as a throwing knife. Yeah, I know you shouldn't...

3. Sharp as H.E.double hockey sticks out of the box!

The answer is "no", I wouldn't buy one as a daily carry. Look at CRKT's other knives.

However, "yes", I would buy it as a "fun" knife.

Being in the military and having to follow certain uniform regulations, I have found the stiff kiss a somewhat difficult concealed carry knife due to the length sticking out of the sheath, how ever the most effective (snd comfortable ) method I have found is in the small of the back. There are problems with this method though, as any self defense guru can tell you, among htem would be access to the knife during a conflict, reaching behind your back can prove difficult when on it, and dangerous when not.... I would suggest a good folder for regular carry, an affordable one might be the crkt M16 series. I just picked up one with zytell handles for $33. For those without access to a military PX they sell for between 40 and 50 dollars....

As its summer, I like to use mine as a neck knife under a loose shirt. I have cord wrapped the handle and it works a treat! Pity about the steel though and the Glass Bead finish.

I have owned both the MDP and Tanto versions of the Stiff KISS and love them both. As was mentioned above, one of the best aspects is that they're so inexpensive, using or losing one isn't that big of an issue.

I used to wear the tanto around my neck every day as a "back-up" of sorts to my beloved CRKT KFF in my pocket. My thought at the time was that, around the neck it would be accessible with either hand if for some reason I couldn't reach the KFF (e.g., a groundfighting situation), although the draw was a little slow. I never had a problem with it printing, especially when I wore it under a shirt with a tie (which is the std. apparel in my office).

I bought the MDP with the thought that it would be my primary line-cutting knife when surf-fishing in waist deep water, as I was concerned about salt water corrosion and figured that you can't find an easier blade to keep clean. But alas, my sister started working in a rougher area of town and was very concerned about aggressive panhandlers so I gave it to her.

(Good story, though: her fears were somewhat justified. She was later harassed by a panhandler who grabbed her as she walked past. Instead of pulling the blade, she grabbed the back of one of his hands and laid a Nikkyo/center wrist lock on his wrist, twisted it as hard as she could, and threw him face-first into the sidewalk.)

Anyway, although I no longer wear one every day, I'd still recommend either the tanto or MDP. For $20 - $25, you can't go wrong with it, and it sure beats being empty-handed. They're also dern handy to have around your neck when surf-fishing. :D

i prefer the drop point as the tanto would cut off course when used for a utility knife, the MDP is a great general purpose blade and carries well in the front left pocket for conveniece/access.
