There is always requests for small multi purpose thower/utility. Here is a review on an A.G. Russell design that might work for some. What do you think?

I couple years ago i got a gerber guardian, which is a very similar blade--7.5 inches, rubber handle, double edge, coated blade. It really throws well as its balance is just right. Its made to be a boot or carry knife. It runs about $48, so its a bit more expensive. I quit throwing it cause I wanted a bigger blade, but it was the best small thrower I ever tried.

I dont think it makes much sense to throw your boot knife at somebody. Then you loose your weapon, and if you havent killed them, which is highly unlikely, they now have your weapon. It makes much more sense to either run, or get a good grip to fight with the double edged knife. keep it hidden until you can strike, then slash to create the largest bloodiest wound possible, hopefully a face wound, then get the heck out of there. If you stab you are likely to get your knife stuck in a bone, and are also more likely to kill someone.

just my opinion. i'm no expert.

I love my Sting it is perfect for carry on my ankle. I like it so much I have not had the heart to throw it. It feels great in the hand I really like 1050 and
carbon V because of dense sorta tough feel the blades have. The Sting could use a little more weight on the blade to make it a better handle. 10cm instead of the 8.5 blade it has now would work great. The Sting has been so popular I would not be surprised to see a bigger one out soon as CRKT has done that to several of their knives like the First Strike.

If you have 2 knives and you are facing someone armed with a handgun it makes sense to throw one to distract and hopefully injure him while closing the distance as fast as possible and then thrust into a specific organ like the heart or the artery in the neck. People with handguns almost always underestimate knives so muchg so that police in the US and Canada have
training to drill into them that if you let a man with a knife with in 20 feet without drawing your weapon you are likely to be killed.

Ok, I see your point about having 2 knives. I had heard about the police training you mention. I think you are right that most people underestimate the capacity of knives.

I've read posts from cops saying that the worst wounds they see are from knives. Since both persons in a knife fight are likely to get cut, most don't want to get anywhere near a knife fight. I think that is part of the reason that many cops prefer to carry a gun for personal defense, even off duty. They like the distance the gun provides, although, as you point out, that can create a false sense of security.

A few years back a cop shot a 15 year old mentally retarted boy after his family had called the police. The boy was threating the parents with a kitchen knife and refused to put it down. The cop shot and killed the kid. Lots of folks here in Denver we outraged, but I think that cop did what he had to do, and what he was trained to to. It did bring up the issue of getting cops some non-lethal form of taking a guy down, like a taser.
