Little write up on the Tao pen. It's excellent, nice design and very well built. The design is very discrete and I really like the threaded cap design. The case is nice and can be used to hold other knives or gadgets. The spacepen ink writes smooth and the colour is nice and bold.

Solid 9/10. Only down side is the amount of threads for removing the cap.

I would have to agree completely. Its a great pen. I absolutely hate the fact you have to turn it 10 times to open it though! I got fed up enough and ordered a Rick Hinderer Extreme Duty in Aluminum. 3 turns to take the cap of and i think the over quality of finish and the size is a bit better than the Tao. I still have both, but the Hinderer is always in my pocket!

Serious design flaw!

I recently purchased this Tao pen in OD green from an online flashlight vendor. While cap threading is more than adequate, the section which holds the pen point to the body is engaged by only 1-1/4 turns on the thin threads. I do expect the pen to fail in short order with such a weak attachment at a critical point. Due to this serious design flaw, do not ever rely on the pen surviving a tactical situation. In addition, the pen arrived with a loose clip.

Examine your pen to see if this flaw is representative of the entire line. See you at the SHOT Show.

My Tao pen is quite sturdy, I just hate the fact i need to turn the cap 10 times to remove it. The section that holds the time is held tightly in place by around 5 turns and an O-Ring for good measure. Its a tough pen, but man is it a pain to take off that cap!

Just a follow up to this in case someone else is researching like me and comes on this review. The above mentioned flaw is no and issue on the pen I just received. So either there was some kind of mistake or CRKT has fixed this "flaw". Mine takes several turns and has around 1/2 dozen threads in this area on top of being O-ringed. Basically a larger threaded area than the cap has.
