hey guys, anybody have any real world info on the crkt viele wasp 8011 and its big brother? anybody know what type of steel for the blade? i believe the scales are carbon fiber. i ask because i use the 8011 as one of my EDCs and while it came razor sharp out of the box, it didnt keep that edge for very long. don;t get me wrong, its still quite sharp, but it just seemed to drop off pretty quick, just cutting cotton rags. i picked up i think 4 of them about a year ago from a sporting goods store for $15 for the 8011s and $19 for the bigger ones while the sticker price was 119 and 129, respectively. i have 2 of them still in the box with all the info, but they are packed away at home and i am out at work in the oilfields and it will be a while before i go home, and when i do, digging through a bunch of packed boxes for 2 little knives.. well that just doesnt sound like fun:barf:

anybody else use these knives? what do you think?

I haven't owned either, but I was a big CRKT fan before I found my BM Ritter Grips in M2. I believe the steel on Wasp is AUS118. CRKT also made a Limited Edition Wasp, with even better materials and finer manufacturing.

I believe the limited edition Wasp was pimped by Klotzli and you're correct , the steel is Aus118.
The original scales are G10 , the pimped version are CF.

You got a good deal on those , I recall buying mine at Big5 on sale for cheap $$$.

I pimped both of mine and they turned out quite nice,

Not a bad knife at all , classy looking , too classy for me to carry EDC though.

The Klotzi edition was a nicer model that CRKT made to give out to writers and buyers for large companies etc. They weren't ever for sale unless somone ebayed their free demo model.

Is this common? Are the reviewers writing articles about the same knives the company is selling? Joe

Actually you can score the Klotzi model from AG Russel , if they still have some left.

Do not know how common that is.
