Ok is it me or does the wasp hurt just to hold. Its got this really sharp point on the top rear of the handle. I have two ,the small one and the large one. They are both uncomfortable to hold tight, but they sure are pretty and am glad I own them.I'm just wondering if its some kind of pressure point thing. I used it to cut down some boxes and got a blister in the middle of my palm right away.(surgeons hands ya know)

I own a small Wasp, and I'm afraid this is a case of function following form. The thing is a real looker with nice materials and a blade shape I love, but handling it is like petting a porcupine. Besides the knobby bolster it has sharp edges on the scales and pivot screws. Nice and light clipped to the pocket, but takes skin off as you run your hand past it to extract keys, etc. I carry mine in a small belt pouch on "light knife" days.

Really sorry to hear that. Not totally surprised, given the pictures. I firmly agree with Ed Fowler that the only part of any knife that ought to be sharp is the edge.

The handle is where the user "interfaces" with the knife. If you can't even hold it comfortably, it is totally useless IMHO.

Can't believe CRKT is leaving solid design in favor of "good looks." The Ryan Model 7 hasn't even tempted me, especially after reading that it is so hard to pull out of a pocket. Man, these are the very essence of usability. I've been critical of BM for their alleged inability for a long time to grind blades evenly, and felt smug because the majority of my CRKTs were just fine. Well, my notions of "collecting" CRKTs is getting confused, dammit.

Might as well say it, since don't believe I've seen anyone else do so. The Tighe Tac, that looked so great to me, is too angular to hold really comfortably. The scale/bolster edges aren't chamferred enough for my taste. I'm disillusioned.

Rick and GronK,

Thanks for the heads up about the ergonomics of the Wasp. I thought the looks were cool as well as cruel (to the user). Now, before buying one, I will have to handle it.

yeah,it is sharp.

i handled one,the fit and finish isnt bad at all.very high quality.BUT DAMN!
that rear edge is SHARP.the only way i would get one is if it was cheap, and i could round of the rear edge with some sand paper.

the thumbstud is also another issue....

Thanks for the input, I agree that the feel of a tool is important. Have you ever held the Gerber Gator IMOP I think it's ugly but close your eyes and just hold,OOOOOH it's like butter, so I've got the new Stud Gator It wont go in any glass case but I can use it every day and be comfortable. So my new friends go and handle them.

I liked the WASP a lot better before I owned it and tried to use it for a while. Ditto all the complaits above. It does get high marks for fit and finish, and I really like the blade shape. I think it is one of the highest quality knives CRKT has produced in terms of materials, but like someone observed above, all that is useless if it is uncomfortable to hold.

If anybody wants to get rid of their plain edge wasp, I've got a lnib spyderco centofante M# c25gp plain edge to trade.

If you're looking for a "feel good" knife just check out ANY of our knives at Delta Z Knives. You'll really like the Skeletonized model DZ-6180-AN as the handle is coated with rubber over the anodizing which makes for a really great "feel".

Forum members can order online and save 20% just by entering coupon code "S20C" (es-twenty-see) during the checkout process.

Hope to see many of you in Atlanta!

I just picked up a small plain edge Wasp and I think that the sharp edges and/or uncomfortable handle are a bit overstated in this thread. Perhaps I just have calloused hands but I don't find it that uncomfortable to hold.

Fit and finish are overall quite good. I will agree that the thumb stud is not my favorite. Cheers! -Alan

Played with a small Wasp in a store, good looking, well made, good materials (mostly

)...but it didn't feel good in my hand. I don't like the looks or the materials of the Tighe or Ryan models, so I guess I'm in the same boat with Bugs, kinda disappointed.

I've dedided I like the good points of mine so much it's worth working on the bad. Gonna remove the clip and sand off the sharp edges.
