Has anyone handled the CRKT Kasper folder and loved it as much as I do? If so,I'd like to hear the comments. Any derogatory comments are good too.

That's a righteous knife--many raves on it in the "knife reviews" section in the General forums category--great value for the $$$, super knife...

I like the ergonomics and feeling very much, but distrust the linerlock. My KFF regularily fails the spine whack test. LAWKS is a very good idea on that one. If CRKT produced it with integral lock, it would be my defensive folder of choice.
And the AUS-6 steel is so-so.

I keep hearing this criticism of this knife failing the "spine wack test."

I agree that a blade that bends in the middle should be very strong.

However, we are talking defensive use and in a world where people are routinely killed with pocket knives of all description and I personally have never heard of one instance where a dirtbag or good guy has lost a finger because of lock failure.

The stories of someone losing a digit are usually during high stress utility use as a tool that the knife in question was never designed to function as.

Now...

A big problem with any knife is having no integral guard, then your hand can slip up on the edge in a thrust.

There is good reason to believe that a certain "someone" killed his wife and her boyfriend with a Swiss Army Knife, with a regular lock...he had a cut on his finger that was never adequately explained and my theory is, when Goldman's rib was split on one of the thrusts to the chest, this person's finger was sliced as his hand ran up the blade.

The lock did not fail and cause this.

A lack of an integral guard caused this...

A spine wack test is an O.K. thing in some areas to calculate how much abuse the knife can take...I don't think it has that degree of relevancy in the defensive arena though.

You are talking about a $38.00 knife. I have one, after seeing Sing's Crawford Custom KFF and handling my Crawford Custom WORTAC. I want a Custom KFF!

These are some of the best defensive folders around.

I know that a spine whack test is of limited relevance (as is any test), but it is something worth mentioning. If I do a reverse grip edge out crescent cut and hook, the stress put on the back of the blade is similar to that of a spine whack. Something I consider, maybe others think it is irrelevant. For the asking price, it is without doubt one of the best knives in its market niche. Just my 0.02.

I just received my CRKT Kasper in the mail and I love it ! Good weight and with the L.A.W.K.S. applied I did not get it to fail the spine whack test. I agree that a knife that can be put through alot and the lock not fail is a tough knife, but realistically the knife will never have the spine hit in a self defense operation unless the opponent just cut through your hand with a machete or something and whacked the spine. as for edge out pakal (a.k.a.ice pick grip) I don't believe that the knife was made for this type of grip at all. The handle seems to be all wrong ( at least for me). Besides, I utilize edge in when in ice pick grip but that's another matter entirely. I honestly appreciate the answers, replies etc.
Be safe and keep your guard up.
