Hi, I was just wondering if anybody had tips on cleaning the metal (grey) off Ceramic Crock Sticks? I tried what the booklet said, washing with soapy hot water but there still seems to be a whole lot of grey on them. Thanks and I hope this hasn't been covered a million times before.

Never used the Gatco system, but my guess is that you could clean them the same as the rods for the Spyderco Sharpmaker. Just need to get some Ajax cleanser, the powder stuff, and one of those green fiberglass scrubbers. Then go to the sink and scrub away. Gets them good as new everytime.

I like to use Bartender's Friend stainless steel sink cleanser. The chemicals work well for getting stainless residue out of the rods. I use a toothbrush and a paste of the cleanser mixed with water for my flat Sharpmaker rods. For round rods I use a wet dish rag to rub on the paste.

Thanks a lot guys, for now I tried the Ajax and it worked a heck of a lot better. They were so dirty with steel that they weren't working anymore. It got a lot worse after sharpening my new Mora with the laminated steel, not sure why but yeah they're working again, thanks.

Another vote for Bar KEEPERS Friend. I originally got this stuff to keep my stainless steel pots and pans sparkling and found it works great for cleaning my Sharpmaker rods. Also if you pick up a rust eraser they work good too, but I'd wash with Bar Keepers Friend as a final step.
