Hi all,
I have several sharpeners and have heard alot about these "crock Sticks". Wondering who makes them and where I can find them. Is "crock stick" a nick name for a well known sharpener or is it an actual product. If you know where to find them please leave a link in reply to this post. Thanks all.

Crock Stick is a product name that is now widely used on all ceramic rod sharpening systems. Spyderco makes some good ones as do Lansky, and several others. They work very well. I have two different systems and for anything short of reprofiling a severly damaged edge, they are the best.

It is not the fall that kills you. It is the realization that "yes, you did something that stupid."

Yes but is there one original product called a Crock Stick. I own the Spydie rods. But is there an actual product called "the Crock Stick" that I can purchase. IF so where.

Just an interesting bit of trivia that I learned from the instructional video that comes with the Spyderco Sharpmaker (which, by the way is an excellent product). Anyway, people used to use big stone crocks as knife sharpeners. They would draw the knife around the inner edge of the crock. Since the side of the crock was an arc, the trailing edge of the blade rubbed against the side of the crock and caused the cutting edge of the blade to be held at a fixed angle with the stone of the crock. This allowed someone to sharpen their knife at a fixed angle. Neat. So that's why they're called Crock Sticks, since they were made of crock material.

It's been a while since I watched the video, so correct me if I am wrong on any of that...

Ryu, I bought my "Crock Sticks" at Dicks Sporting Goods for about $8-12. They had them in fine ceramic and fine/coarse ceramic.

IMO the Sharpmaker is much better but at less than 1/4 the cost who cares. I use the crocks when I travel because they are compact.
