As Mick Dundee would say" That's a knife."

Got my AK Bowie and it's a real monster of a knife. 15 inches overall with a 9 1/4 inch blade. 1/2 inch thick that tapers down to the point. Very nice fullers.

Sanu made it and he did another fantastic job. The fit and finish are excellent. It fits my large mitts just right. I like the palm swell a lot.

Scabbard's OK but that keeper strap has gotta go. It's too high up on the handle. Seems like it would work better down low to keep the knife from jiggling up an down.

I think this big mutha just begs for a thigh tie type sheath, something like the Busse Battle Mistress uses.

Great knife. Can't wait to try it out on something. Cooking a Ham tomorrow...hmmmm...

Thanks Uncle and Sanu for another fine piece.

It will do pretty good on ham. While I don't use it much I really want to find out how that recurve works for slashing.

When I first got mine- also made by Sanu, I performed different tests some of which were in the kitchen. There was nothing it did not cut, chop, or slice well. I haven't tested slashing performance yet but I would be suprised if it doesn't do very well (a raw ham would do nicely as a test medium). I took the retaining strap off immediately as the blade locks in its scabbard just right. That may change after a few years of use though.

Enjoy yours, it's a good choice- Yvsa's great designs and Sanu seem to be made for each other.

Down the road a little, I might see what Terry could come up with for a scabbard.

From the pictures and the testimonials- he would be the man.

I'd like to see a head to head review of the HI Bowie and a Busse Battle Mistress or Mad Dog knife. Something tells me the HI Bowie would hold it's own quite well.

As I recall, it was Cobalt who designed the original HI Bowie and with a half inch spine for just that kind of purpose - to forestall the Mad Dog, Busse, and Cold Steel hype.

P.S. that hype is the reason some of us call it the "HI Bird and Trout" model. Besides, it *is* smaller than a lot of the HI stuff.

Update!

The ham didn't stand a chance against the Bowie

Had to clean the meat chunks out of the Cho when I was finished!

I used it to shred cabbage for some cole slaw also. The weight of the knife alone was enough to cut it up.

Edge still real sharp.

No blisters or hot spots

Serious cutlery!!!
