While looking through the local hardware store for sanding paper, I ran across something called *crocus paper*. I felt it and then felt the 800 grit. The crocus paper felt even finer. I later read where this paper is rated at about 1200. Have any of you used this? I am working on finishing a blade that came from a lawnmower blade. I started at 60, moved to 80, 120, etc until I got to 800. Then tried the crocus paper and could not see much difference. I have read where Japanese swords are worked with this finer grit. Any comments on crocus?

I think crocus cloth may be even finer than 1200. It takes along time but you can get a nice finish from it.

I bought it once when I first started doing knifes. I believe its the same thing as a buffing compound except its on a sheet. Didn't care for it then, it could be still out in my shop somewhere......Ray
