Sorry TMO/TO - is a Russian shortening of steel heat treatment)))) - the process of tempering steel to the required harndess with certain conditions fullfilled.
Shirogorovs often use this steel on their basic models, same price level to S30V or S35VN.
Nice working steel with several specs:
- it has extremely high corrosion resistance due to nitrogen
- it's hard to sharpen the edge to hair-popping level (I don't use fine and ultrafine sharpeing stones for this steel, only medium - if we talk about Spyderco Triangle)
- only 4-6 moves on the Triangle to retain the cutting edge sharp enough to perfom a job and it is keeping an edge long enough - yes, very easy to sharpen the blade
- it's a rather malleable steel, so almost no edge chipping (like you can face of S30V), but crumpling can take place that can be recovered if you have a stone
- the blade gets scratches very quickly, no deal about the performance, it's an esthetical issue
Similar to? Hm... Hard to compare. Better than AUS8 cutting performance, higher than 440C corrosion resistance, easier than 3V blade service
