Maybe I'm ignorant, but is it really possible to get a genuine W.W. Cronk stag handled bowie for $310? I don't know how to put up a link to it, but if you search for Cronk, you will see the knife in question.

Maybe it really is a Cronk bowie, but I'm guessing not. I would think that Cronk would have put his name on the blade, instead of stamping it into the butt of the stag.

That seller has a near impeccable reputation, and maybe HE was bamboozled. And maybe it's the absolute truth. Regardless of the reserve at $310, this will surely go up and up.

Because of eBay and it's reputation for fraud, it sure does need to be handled with care. Still, ebay is the world's biggest tag sale, and anything is possible. Looks like a job for a knife expert...

No Mr. Danbo it is not, as you can clearly see the bid is at $310 and the reserve has not yet been met. :p :p :p

I own the Cronk Bowie Knife in question. I've owned 17 Cronks in total and currectly own 6. This knife was Cronk's modern (1970's) interpretation of a 1800's Rifleman's Knife. There is a very similar original Rifleman's Knife from the 1800's on an internet site. The original has the same crown stag handle, similar crossguard of copper and a similar shaped blade. Cronk used D2 steel for the blade and the double crossguard. He experimented with D2 steel early in his career. The reason the maker's mark is stamped on the Crown Stag end is because the original knives seldom had a maker's mark. It cost quite a bit more than the $310 mentioned. Thanks, Gary J.
