Crosby shackle knife?

Just curious if anyone has made a knife from a Crosby shackle? I had ine laying around without a pin (not galvanized). I wanted to try and make a knife out of it but want sure what type of steel it was or if it would be suitable. Gonna hammer it out anyway just getting started so need some practice on that end!

Crosby may have info for its type of steel. But dont expect it to be a good knife. Have fun with it. I expect it will be on par with a railway spike knife or rather letter opener.

I agree that's it's probably a lower carbon steel, relatively speaking. Probably very much on par with a rail spike. You might do a spark test and see what it looks like, but either way I'm sure it'd be a fun project.
