Hello guys
Possibly it sounds stupid, but I would like to ask as follows: if I carry a knife in a cross draw sheath, doesn't that mean that the edge is getting dull earlier as in an usual sheath? I think nearly the whole weight of the knife lies on the edge, and each rattling will rub it against the leather.

All depends on how it was made. The ones I've made have the weight testing around the bolster area. Not on the blade.

Of course, I'm talking about bigger knives like bowies, which are of more weight, not about 4 inch blades. The reason to carry it in such manner is the possibility to pull the knife out very quick, if necessary.

Samurai carried their swords edge up on their sheaths. Of course the drawing technigue had a lot to do with it (iaijutsu), but I cant help thinking that this way there would also be less pressure on the edge.

Could be.

It could also be so that when the sword was drawn the grip was already proper. IMHO, buy the sheath that puts your knife where you want it in the orientation that gives you the desired grip right from the word go......fewer movements = faster & fewer mistakes.
