Cross draw or strong side?

Which way do y'all sport your khuks. And why, of course. Having tried both, the khuk is crossdraw, left side, the Glock rides on the right side. Never bring a knife to a gunfight and vice-versa.

Khuks carry best for me just as you say, left side, cross draw. Smaller knives (JKM-1, Kumar Karda, Bilton) go on my belt to the back side of my right hip as that's where I'm used to carrying a regular sheath knife.

Sarge, but I'd swear in the pictures of modern Gurkhas, I've wondered about the khuks which seem to be hanging in BACK over the right butt. Might just be the situation, I guess. Cross draw is for my protection.

Cross side (weak side) for anything over 18" or in a tight scabbard.

If it's smaller or in a loose scabbard it always goes on the strong side and gets rotated on its way up.

Anybody from the convention remember how Dr. Duvon executed draws when using two khukuris? With one only which I figure is going to work for about 99% of the khukuri toting population was crossdraw.

I think one of the reasons Gorkhas carry the khukuri backside as they do is because they spend a lot of the time on the ground crawling around like a lizard. Making a crossdraw when your nose is in the dirt isn't the easiest draw to make.

If memory serves me right, which it doesn't always.

Duvon used two methods, as he was having trouble with the tight scabbard. He mentioned several times, that his own scabbards were loose, allowing him more flexability.

Cross draw, holding the scabbard with left hand and pulling Khukuri.

Trying to pull Khukuri out with left hand and rotating hand positioning in midair. Tight scabbard wasn't cooperating.

works best for me with all of my khuks. Too many times I leave the house with another weapon on the right side. My khuks are mounted stable on the belt so they do not slide around. So the only place for mine is on the left side. My 12" AK and the bilton ride almost in fromt of my left hip and can be in hand very swiftly.

Being right handed I don't want one of those knives on the right even when carrying a shotgun.
It works out pretty well for me. Every body to his own poison.:) :D

Definitely cross draw for me-so far.
I guess on account of my size. Same side gets kinda awkward pulling my arm way up and back.
But haven't tried the smaller "12 ones yet.

I prefer the back and to draw to the right (after conditioning the sheath so its not so tight, when I cross draw I step back with the right leg turn my left shoulder out. Both draws keep the weapon arm from being exposed and does not put the elbow out front it also is a somewhat ready position which is the point.

I like the back draw also becasue it keeps the weapon some what hiddenby the hip and leg.

I think its what you get comfortable with.

by the way I am new here this is a great forum lots of very good info here

mostly because I'm a lefty and the frogs for HI khuks are all right hander sheaths. I wear it over the back left pocket, where my wallet contacts the khuk. Easy to draw, and out of the way when not in use. The other benefits of backdraw have been mentioned previously...

You all must live in some terrible places to have to go around armed like that.

I cary the keys to my truck in my left pocket, and my wallet in my back pocket. One or the other of those have gotten me out of most everything I have ever gotten into.

I gotta admit Ive never had a khuk on my belt. Never gone walking far with a khuk, so being lazy, and having no desire to undo the belt, Ive always just carried em in my hand, and if they start to git heavy, rested on my shoulder like a rifle (wow now thats a run-on sentence).

I carry it like those Gurkas do, drawing from behind with my left hand. My right hand has to help to re-sheath the khuk though.

1) In the backpack
2) Cross-draw, left hip as I'm a righty
3) Back

My belt is a little high, and my arms a little long for a strong-side draw. Even when I'm toting my JKM, I usually hang it from the left side, so I can grab the sheath and pull it out easier.

Check out the cross draw videos in the "Weekend" thread...
