I would like to take apart my CrossLock and replace the plastic/rubber scales with checkered wood, possibly walnut. I need a better grip on the knife. Where can I find a spanner that fits this knife? I have a pair of pliers that are round and fit the nut(?) perfectly but they're cheap and small so I can't apply the required torque.

This is not the best knife out there but the price is right and I like its utility. Sure I wish it had better materials, fit and finish but if I lose it I can just buy another one.

David,
We make our spanners out of sockets by grinding. The eyelet at the butt end is spun and will be torn up during disassembly. The rubber inserts are back by a plastic door that is sonic welded in. Be careful not to tear the handle up popping it out. We have popped them out by supporting around the insert and pressing with a foot on the rubber.
Look for a new crosslock next spring with metal backbones, double liners and a totally new look and feel. The early protos and renderings look great. We're excited.

I hope this helps.
