For example- famous russian blacksmith Mikhail Artemyev assemble axes only so method.

M. Artemyev are famous russian blacksmith, live in Petrozavodsk, Karelia (near Finland), and great axe collector.

Wow, thanks! My browser (google chrome) translates the site. But it is still difficult to understand some of it. Pretty awesome looking axes and knives!!
 
Turbo, way to make a guy feel inadequate. Ha. Those axes are beautiful. Thats interesting to know about the crossed shimmed helve being Northern European. I guess that doesn't surprise me as the quality and importance of woodworking in that part of the world is such a big part of their history. I know when I traveled over there I was constantly impressed by the way wood and stone was fit together and has lasted over the centuries.
