I just ordered a Byrd Crossbill and Cara cara. The Crossbill is coming with a aluminum handle but none of the Spyderco literature or website make mention of such a beast.
Does such a Byrd exist or did I just score a misidentified knife with steel handles??

I have both.I just put a magnet to the handle of my crossbill & it stuck,so I know it's not aluminum.Hopefully it's just a typo.

Good idea. I got the knife off E-bay but maybe I'll call Spyderco.

Let us know what they say.Just curious is all.I really like the way the crossbill feels in my hand with the SS.It's a little too smooth(could get slippery)IMO though.I'm looking into applying some kind of tacky "sandpaper like" adhesive like they make for pistols.

There was however, a mention of the Crossbill coming in an alternate handle material, but I thought it was to be G-10.

I wonder If the aluminum would be better for grip. My M16 has an aluminum handle and it's matted enough that the grip is good.

yeah i've seen the "aluminum" typo perpetuated at different internet shops....maybe the prototype photo had the aluminum typo.... the Crossbill's handle has always been SS and the G-10 handle should come out soon.....
the only aluminum handled byrds to my knowledge are the Raven/Crow

Wow good to know. When it comes I'll check and send an e-mail to the guy letting him know.
Thanks for the info guys.

Skate board tape works great and is available everywhere. Stays on very well, comes in different colors.

Spyderco just told me their is no such Byrd made. They are all Stainless or G10.
As for the knife, customs must be holding it because it hasn't got here yet (about 2 weeks)
But lately I've heard it can take a month for a knife to clear canadian customs.
