I was lucky enough to pick up two great knives from my P.O. Box this morning. My pictures do not do these knives justice and for that I apologize. I am still working on a light box.

The first knife is from Dan Crotts. This is the second knife that I have ordered directly from Dan, and both times he has gone out of his way to ensure that I get exactly what I am looking for. This convexed Model 8 has stainless hardware, thumb grooves and some beautiful ironwood scales. His convex grind is hands down the nicest I have had the pleasure to use. Not in the photos is a wonderful cross-draw kydex sheath.

The second blade I received is from Phillip Patton. I had purchased a larger model in the past and was so impressed I asked him if I could get a knife that was a bit smaller for EDC. He happened to have this knife already near completion in the handle material that I wanted. As usual, the craftsmanship is superb. It came with a wonderful horizontal leather sheath.

These two knives are very different, yet both are great examples of what I look for in an EDC. I would like to thank both makers, and I hope that I have the honor of owning and using more of their work in the future. My only concern for the short term is deciding which one of these knives to carry on any given day.

I was thinking that too. The ironwood is really nice and I was thinking I would like it better if it also had a tapered tang.

I agree that a tapered tang on the Crotts would be more visually appealing, but I think that it would throw off the feel of the knife in hand. I will have to ask Dan his opinions on that, and whether he would be open to making one in the future. :)

Thanks for the comments, Shane! May the knife serve you well and long. :)
