So, was browsing Wally Worlds knives this evening after the store had finished some remodeling. Lo and behold, they finally got in some new models. One being the made in China Kershaw Crown. The fit and finish on this knife is amazingly good with absolutely no blade play in either direction. The blade opens/closes very smoothly and closed the blade is damn near spot on center. As far as blade steel, it's 8CR13MOV which, since I don't know blade steels from shinola, means nothing to me. The best part of this knife is that it was only $15 bucks. :D

I'm rethinking my take on China made knives. Anyone else have any experience with this particular knife? I'd love to hear about it.

Love the crown, thanks Thomas.
If it didn't say China on the blade I wouldn't have ever guessed. Fit and finish very near perfect.
Here are some more nice ones from PRC. I hate to see so many Kershaws made there now, but at least the quality is good.

I have one. Sticky lock engagement, lateral blade play, sloppy detailing on micarta edges and one of the screw tops is already stripped due to overtightening when assembled. Love the Tremor and Chill, but not this one.

While it's probably not worth it to ship the knife from Finland, Kershaw would replace / repair the knife.

Yes the shipping would cost more than what I paid for the knife. But since it is such a cheap knife the quality issue doesn't bother me too much anyway.

The crown is probably the classiest 20$ knife I've ever seen the Micarta sets it apart.

Just bought one tonight, yep about $15 at Wally World. The box tells you nothing about the knife, so I figured stained pee wood handle and probably something pretty low end for the blade steel but bought it anyway for the looks. Lo and behold I find out it's the same steel as the Tenacious (which is about equal to AUS 8, so nothing to laugh at) and Micarta scales. All the screws on my knife are fine and frankly they are really normal Torx size, unlike the Tenacious who's screws are kinda odd size that nothing really fits perfectly, despite it being a good knife otherwise. Blade is centered and lock up is nice and tight. Main bevel is very even and sub 40 degrees inclusive, so no need to re-profile to use with Sharpmaker or croc sticks, so that's another plus. I'm impressed for the money.

I bought the Crown I and was puzzled at why a knife of such quality was priced so low. Still can't figure it out, so I bought the Crown II. Still no idea. Both were scary sharp out of the box, look like a "gentleman's knife" and carry well in an office setting.

Who makes them in China? Hopefully SRM, Navy or Enlan

I believe I read that KAI owns their own factory there. And that some of the workers were trained by skilled craftsmen from their plants in Japan and the USA.

Glad to hear some good things about the Crown. My son and I got one for his friends 14th birthday.

I Have The Kershaw Crown, And Quite A Few Other Kershaw Knives, And I Absolutely Love Them. The Crown Is Probably The Best Name Brand Cheapo Out There, And Just Looks Beautiful.

I'm honestly not too pleased with the knife. Mine came new (purchased off of Amazon), with the blade rubbing the right side liner, and horrific left-right blade play. Adjusting the pivot screw enough to center the blade made it so that the knife was quite stiff to open, and the liner-lock hardly engages at all-you really need to flick the knife open to get it to lock. I think I'll be sending this one in for a replacement. :(

Seems from what I'm reading, it's hit or miss with the Crown, with maybe slightly more favoring the knife. I have to say, the one I picked up is amazing, made even more so by the low price.
