I've had large Sebenza's since 1997, and I've managed to nick my thumb on every one of them while opening it.. I'm pushing on the side of the stud to overcome the detent and the it pops, swings away from my thumb, which then chases behind and hits the edge.
So yesterday I got myself real good with a new Small 31, it fileted a 3x3mm patch right off the pad of my thumb :/
Am I the only one who's been bit opening a Sebenza?

You are not alone.
We hear you and this is a safe space.

My Sebenza requires an occassional blood sacrifice as well. Never quite as bad as what you're describing but yeah, the thumbstuds on Sebenza aren't idiot proof.

I've cut myself a couple of times, but only when closing them.

I've knicked myself on my Shirogorov and on a Koenig mini Arius by testing the choil size. But I have not managed to feel the bite of any of my 14 CRK folders or the few that have moved on.

I tend to use two hands to open a CRK. I expect if I practice more it would be easier one handed. Spydercos spoiled me for one handed use.

I don't own one, but watched a video just now to understand what you are describing. You should not have this problem if you use the back of your thumbnail, and flick it open.

I’m better with a dual thumb stud like on the inkosi. I use my thumb on the front stud while also pushing on the back stud with my first finger just enough to get past the detent, then I use only my thumb from there.

I fixed it, and the results are absolutely fantastic. I have no idea why CR so stubbornly keeps using those awful pointy studs.. I've put up with them for decades on my large 21's but no more..

I ordered "2 Packs Custom Thumb Studs, Replacement Titanium Thumbstuds for Benchmade 535 BUGOUT (Silver), $7.99" from Amazon.
I put them in a (fairly new not sloppy) Dewalt cordless drill lightly chucked just tight enough to hold them without leaving marks. I spun them fast while gently shaving the shoulders down to about 0.125" with a good quality square mini (jewelers) file.
The results couldn't be better, now its super easy to open from either side and it even effortlessly reverse flicks. Best $8 mod I've ever done to anything.
