Can someone tell me about a new powder steel from Crucible called PDF 27? I'm told it looks like d2 with high chromium content. I've dug around on google but found nothing. I wanted to find a data sheet to compare to other steels like m390 or Elmax.

It's possible my maker meant PSF27. I'm on the fence about it. I really would prefer m390 or Elmax since I know the stuff. PSF27, I have no experience with.

PSF27 is like D2 but its spray formed. It provides a finer grain of steel then even powdered steel.

My maker gave me the wrong steel number. He meant to tell me PD-1. http://sb-specialty-metals.com/grades/pd1

That said, it's for a custom folder. While for a fixed blade, I'd have been ecstatic about PD-1, for a folding knife I think the application is wrong given my locale in the humid and hot southeast. My original steel choice was m390, but he is out of that steel right now. My other option right now might be s90v, but I'm not sure yet if he has s90v steel blanks. PD-1 is an option but I don't want to deal with having to wipe the knife every time I get home.

My top choices were m390 or Elmax, neither of which are in his stock right now. I know Duane Dwyer is quite a fan of PD-1 having said it was similar but improved over 3v. Corrosion does concern me for this application. As a fixed blade I'm more inclined to wipe the blade down because I can access the handle easily. On a folder I'd have to take the knife apart, which gets boring doing that every day of the summer months. I'm busy as is with my day to day.
