I recently heard a lot about two types of blades being made from this process. One is JT420 and the other is M340 Eccostar. I had a chance to examine the two blades types and would like feedback from those who have used, tested, etc., the same. Personally , I was impressed.

www.bohler-edelstahl.com has excellent info on K340 Isodur and M340 Isoplast. The Isodur would be similar to A-2 ,a high carbon non-stainless.The Isoplast would be similar to 440A a low carbon stainless.

Thanks for the replies. My original source stated the origin was Austria. the JT420 looks very fine grained... hard to tell from bar stock. The M340 was of large grain, kinda chromey looking, and was called a "metallic plastic"
that has incredible edge-holding ability. This is the one that caught my eye due to its unique appearance. The analysis if Cr:8.9% , P: .011% , S:.002% , Nb: .19%, V: 45% , with additives Al and Nd ( neodymium.
I just thought it made an attractive and unusual finish on the blade, but could not get information at the time on the flexibility or strength test.
I will opursue this and post as I get more info.

I've got a couple of pieces of K340 Isodur, and am looking forward to using it. It's supposed to be very clean, as it goes through a vacuum melting process.

On the BUCorp site, check out Uddeholm's Vanadis 4. I have been craving some of this for a while now. They don't supply it in usable (for me) dimensions.

Sort of like a high C (1.45%) version of 3V.

They don't really have K340 in normal knifemaker useable sizes either, but that didn't stop me from buying two pieces that measure 2" x 16" x .5". ;) :)

Guess I'll make myself a humongous Busse-like combat knife or two. :)

That is one thing I really like about being able to grind just a little hunter or a couple Scandi's. I can get back into stainless. Crucible makes a great steel(s). Of couse those numbers don't remind me of Crucible type numbers.
