I made a knife form Cru Forge v a while ago and I did some cutting on some abrasive rope to see how the edge retention was. I was pleased with the edge holding of this steel, anyone else have experience with this steel?. Another thing I would like to say is it takes a nasty sharp edge. Here are some images and the composition
Carbon 1.05
Chromium 0.50%
Vanadium 0.75%
Manganese0.75

Where did you get it in that width? Yes have used it and it is some tough Mother of a steel. Does take a scary edge.
Tried a single hollow grind Straight razor style in 1/4" stock Don't ask why:rolleyes: warped in HT a bit. Had to bend it almost 3/4" the opposite way to get it close to straight again.
Like 5160 on roids no joke Uber tough steel. Just ordered more but it is only 1.25 wide pretty limiting as I don't forge
And yes Vanadium is a heavy metal that settles in your organs... Where a good mask and shower!

I got the steel last year from AKS. I would like to get more if they stock it in this size again. As tough as the steel is, I really noticed the edge holding. Much better then 5160 and higher then 1095,52100 IMO.

I have a knife made by Matt Gregory from that material and it is incredibly wear resistant and takes a wicked sharp edge, without being brittle

I got 3 knives from Scott Mcghee in CruforgeV. One of them are my most used knife and I agree with the posters above, Cruforge can really take a scary sharp edge without beeing brittle (never seen any chipping from abuse/hard use) and stay sharp for a very long time.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm going to cut up some cardboard and do some heavy carving. I did notice it was more difficult to finish grind the blade, that would explain the boost in wear resistance from the Vanadium.
