I've always suspected that it was Chris Reeve's heat treat that was somewhat lacking, rather than the steel itself. Since you mentioned Noss' 'tests,' take a look at how nuch better the Strider fixed blade he tested (also made of S30V, but heat treated much better, IMO) performed. Also, CRK's A-2 steel didn't fare much better in those 'tests' than their S30V, if memory serves. When you start seeing a tough steel like A-2 failing, in my opinion, it's seriously time to look at the heat treatment. From what I've read, Crusader Forge knives gives their S30V knives an optimal heat treat, and their knives stand up to pretty hard use.
