Crushed Jimping?

Anybody else have problems with the jimping on their millies getting crushed? I've been carrying my brand new titanium military for about a week and found the jimping in the finger choil is starting to show damage. It appears that the jimping hits the stop bar when the knife is closed. When I called Spyderco, I was told that yes, it hits the stop bar and is normal. According to customer service, I am the first person that has ever called to complain about it. I'm pretty disappointed to carry a 200+ dollar knife for a week only to be told that it damages itself...
I love every blade I have owned from Spyderco, but this has me questioning if I should look elsewhere for my next knife.

Have owned several Militaries but have never observed this issue. I'll have to look closely at my current one when I get home. It's probably 10 years old and a user, so if that's an issue I'm sure it will show there.

I have smoothed jimping, but nothing that I would call crushed. Anything that contacts the stop pin is going to result in some wear to that area. It won't affect the safety of the knife though...

I’ve seen variations of this as well, it only looked really off or “crushed” on one of about 10 I’ve had. Also, with all my Millie’s, I could hold them up to light and see a gap between the washer and liner at the pivot. Particularities aside, still one of the greatest pocket knives ever created.

Appreciate the responses. Issues aside, I love the knife. It may be big for some people, but it fits just fine in my pocket. 91bravo, I wasn't worried about the safety, if I was I would have told sent it back. However, I have come to expect well thought out designs from Spyderco, and so to hear they knew about a seemingly easily fixed flaw bothered me. I am no knife designer, so maybe it's a more complicated fix than it seems. I bought the knife to carry and use, and this isn't going to stop me.

When I read the title of this thread I said to myself, self it would be funny if it was about a millie. We have the same problem.

Hi DJS,

Welcome to our forum.

Are you sure the jimping is "crushed"? Where did you buy the knife?

I have observed this on all my Militaries. It has never bothered me. You can set your own expectations wherever you want but to me this isn’t a big deal.

My opinion is that you should just accept it. From my experience it doesn’t get any worse over time. It’s a tool and it will show other signs of wear with time.

Perhaps crushed isn't the best description. More specifically, the center couple "teeth" seem to have had their tips flattened out due to contact with the stop bar. I would post a picture, but I haven't figured out how to do that quite yet.
As for where it was purchased, I bought it from dlttrading.com.

Fair point. If I'm being honest, I probably reacted more strongly than necessary after speaking with their customer service. I am happy to hear it's a common occurrence rather than a flaw in this specific knife. It's the first millie I have really carried and had never seen this mentioned anywhere, so I suppose it was more surprise than anything.

Hi DJS,

Thanx for the response. The stop pin has to be very hard to avoid flattening, which causes vertical play. We'll get some flattening of the jimping, but when you said crushed, I thought perhaps it might be a counterfeit. Enjoy your knife. It is s very refined design that has benefited from much refinement over the past 20 years.

As to pics, I haven't figured that out yet either.

Reading the title I immediately thought you meant the top jimping and thought "Damn you mustve been working that knife to death or have thumbs of steel:eek::D"

Pulled my millie out and noticed the same thing. The jimping on the bottom doesn't reach past the scales anyway so it doesn't bother me.

My Knifeworks 204P green Millie has deformed jimping on the bottom. One of the jimps on the top is deformed too. Looks like the jimping is cut a little too thin. Not a big deal though.

Mine looks like the 6th and 7th ridges from the bottom have flat tops instead of points. Good catch, never noticed that.

Every one of my millies has had flattening of the peaks of the jimping that makes contact with the stop pin. They have only flattened so far and then stopped. Doesnt bother me one bit. It hasnt affected the performance or obvious look of the knife. I have carried some variation of a millie in my pocket almost every day for the last 4 years. They have always completed every task I have ever used them for with ease. If a Military was the last pocket knife I ever owned I would be more than pleased
