Its hard to corner any time these days to make a knife, I've made two this year so I count myself fortunate.

This is the second: Crushed W's damascus, stainless guard, buffalo-ivory-red pipestone ferrel, followed by a piece of mystery black horn. Whatever it is it takes a lovely finish.

The knife is 9 1/2 inches overall. I am making a counter block to hold it. I am going to use it on the kitchen counter.

Beautiful knife Fred. The Damascus has a lovely stylized flame pattern to it.

Do you solder the guard or is it a tight mechanical fit?

I hear you on the workshop time btw
It's good for the soul to get some time in though, even if it's only for a bit of a tinker or 'tidy'.

Hope you are all keeping well?

Fred that is nice I love the pipestone in it I have wanted to use pipestone in a knife for some time now I have wanted to use it as a handle because it carves so nice but I am afraid that if it is dropped the handle will brake you have given me a good idea on how I may use it and still carve it as a handle . thanks

It is extremely soft but carves and sands beautifully. Materials like pipestone don't get used much for that reason. I think its worth the effort if you think you can find a way to do it. As thin as the piece is in this knife, it held up nicely to being sliced with a small masonry blade. I book marked the piece in this knife with piano key ivory to protect it from abrasion.
I have another piece of the stone that I'm holding back for future handle project. I made this a couple years back using a piece off the same block.
