Cruwear Manix Steel Rockwell Hardness??

Ok I am trying to re-edge this thing on the Sharpmaker with the 30 degree bevel. I am thinking something over 60 for Rockwell hardness. Even with the diamond rods this thing is slow to respond. 20 reps. 20 more reps. 20 more reps ...

My Manix is the hardest knife I've ever tried to sharpen.
I'm thinking of sending it out to a forum member to sharpen.

Forget the 20 reps each side rule of thumb. More like 60 - 80 for this knife. That works. I am finally getting an edge that cuts phone book paper smoothly. Probably should have left the factory edge, but I wanted to try a different bevel.

For more than minor touch-ups, I highly recommend you save up for a guided rod system like the Edge Pro or the Wicked Edge (or one of their knockoffs if you're comfortable with that).
The edge turns out better and in a lot less time compared to the SharpMaker. I think it makes a huge difference.

I am going to think seriously about your suggestion. The sharp maker does seem to work well for maintenance. But a new bevel sure does take a lot of time.

For wear resistant steels I like to use a jig system like the Wicked Edge with diamond stones. Then, once I have a nice bevel, the Sharpmaker is awesome for keeping them sharp. Establishing a new bevel can be very frustrating and time consuming with slow cutting stones!

If I remember correctly Cruwear is around 62 RC.

I agree with everyone about the guided sharpeners. They take the fight and frustration out of reprofiling these high wear steels (S30V, M4, M390, S90V, S110V etc). I have been using the Edge Pro for about 3 years, and finally had to replace my 120grit and 320grit stones. They lasted about 30 full reprofiles with regular stone flattenings. Not bad. Once reprofiled, I use the Sharpmaker more than any other system to keep them sharp.

Cruwear was one of the easier steels to reprofile, it took about 30mins from this:

Someone once said, any money you invest in good sharpening equipment adds value to your whole knife collection. I tend to agree!
