Hey guys, so i got mine a couple of days ago and it is tight. I took out the pivot screw almost all the way and it loosened up a bit where i can flick it open. Tightened it down somewhat and can't get full deployment.
How long did it take you to break yours in?

My Paramili 2 and domino where not as tough to deploy from the getgo

I don't own this exact knife but have tinkered with many, many knives. Have you tried polishing the washers with a metal polish? Here's two ways i adjust pivots. The first way i try is by disengaging the lock and checking for play, and adjusting it out, in hair increments. By hair i mean, you can't even feel the driver turning the pivot. If i can flick it open after i adjust out the play, i leave it. If its adjusted properly but doesn't open how i want, i adjust it to where i can open it the way i want, and make sure i have no play with the lock is engaged. I've only had a few knives where i had to resort to #2, and the play was so minimal i could only get play wiggling at the very tip of the blade. Try a lubricant, sometimes the oil takes up some room which stops play and smooths out opening. I know my g-10 S30V military is like this.

Just got mine yesterday. It is a little stiffer than my other millie, but not by a lot. I don't usually flick my knives open, but I checked and I can flick it open with my thumb pretty easily. Neither of my millies come close to my para-2's though in smoothness. If I depress the lock on either of my p-2's the blades swing free...

Mine is similar to yours, but I can't even flick it open all the way.

I noticed on my knife that there's a lot of friction with the detent ball on the blade. When I press the lock open, the blade freely swings. However, when I let the lock go there's a ton of resistance moving the blade. At first I suspected the detent ball isn't full pressed in, but unfortunately I don't have other militaries to compare to.

When I receive my marine cloth, I was intending to disassemble the knife and check out the friction then.

It has nothing to do with it being this model.

I've gotten two Militaries from a few different Sprints or Exclusives, and a few times one would be much smoother than the other. Same with most all production knives. I've only gotten two that were overly stiff and Spyderco fixed those for me.

The two Militaries I use were smooth from the start, but I've heard many here say that their stiff one's became smoother with use. Good luck.

What do you mean by "can't get full deployment"?

I mean I can't flick it open all the way. Put froglube on it today going to let it sit there for the night see how it is tomorrow. This is my first millie, but my paras were like butter out of the box

I backed off the pivot . . . blade off center slightly but can open/close one handed. TIME working this knife will loosen it up. Love the millies!!

I also got my cru-wear millie yesterday in the mail and I must say that it is the hardest knife to open that I have ever had. I tried to loosen the pivot some but it still has an overly tight action. Like to the point where it is hard to flick out and I also seem to have the same problem with the detent ball rubbing on the tang of the blade. I don't know if I should return it or not being a sprint run...If i were to return it I would spend the extra $ to get a Southard. Taichung >>> Golden! Thoughts?

Try putting a drop of lube on the detent ball. Always works for me. Although, neither of my two Millies need that treatment.

It will loosen up and break in once you use it, and by using it I don't mean opening and closing it many times, I mean cutting things, etc.

"Flick" gets used different ways - do you mean a wrist-flick?

I will take it off your hands if you want to discharge it!!

Nah i got it to keep it not to sell it, but i feel like i may have to send it in.
I tried loosening up the pivot screw and now the blade centering is completely off, the only way it's centered is if i tighten up the pivot screw all the way.
ANyone else has this issue?

EDIT: just saw this video and it helped me center it

I've had mine for two weeks now. It's flawless. Opens with authority... It batons like a champ, locks up perfectly, and has even been used to pry tin while building a chicken coop this weekend. I've got no blade play no delay in opening. Use it like it's meant to be used and it'll perform without hesitation.

Reasons why the para is smoother than the millie is that the para has a bushing pivot...just keep that in mind.

Try some Hi-Slip Grease. This stuff is great on knives with washers(any kind). I think I read that Gerry McGinnis uses it on his customs.

Is flicking a knife open that important?

My PM2 was rough out of the box. Couldn't flick it open even if I really tried. I loosened all the torx, soaked it in water and a little dish soap. Then I rinsed it for 5 minutes under cold water. Dryed it, used some tuff glide to lube it. Let it sit for awhile. It was better but not perfect. To get the blade to swing the way I wanted, there was blade play. I tightened it to the point I had to, to eliminate blade play. It didn't open or close as easy as I'd hoped but to me no blade play was more important. I found that after using the blade for a while however, it is now perfect. I opens and closes like a dream and has a rock solid lock up. Love it. Doesn't help that I'm OCD about anything nice I buy. I tend to buy something nice, look for every little imperfection, hate it for like a month, then use it and realize it for what it is and love it. Sigh. Haha.
