Does anyone know if the Cryo 2 handle could accept the Cryo 1 blade? I like longer handles with shorter blades, and it sounds like the Cryo 1's handle might be too short for me (no B&Ms have it in my area).

I'm going to assume no because if everything on the Cryo 2 is bigger than the Cryo, the pivot housing and whatnot won't fit together.

Even if everything else fits, wouldn't it have major vertical play since the lockbar and blade stops won't match right?

^I believe so. The proportions would be all off with the spacing of the lock bar and the blade stops. I doubt it would fit just from looking at it.

I can get a 3.5 finger grip on my Cryo. It's certainly not a big knife, but I think it's a great EDC size. It's compact and carries comfortably in pocket, and there is enough blade to handle any of the EDC tasks I've put it to. What are some knives that you like the handle lengths of?

There is always the option for a regrind. I can't say I am always a fan of them, but in some cases, they improve the looks/function of the knife. The important thing to remember is that after you buy it, it is yours. The Cryo II won't be a very expensive knife (at least it isn't by my standards) and would be a great knife to experiment on. Saying that, though, just remember that removing weight and adjusting angles can lead to wondering why it doesn't flip open right or feels off balance.

Ideally, something like an Endura with a Delica blade, a Boker Trance with 3/4-1" additional at the butt without an extended blade, a Shallot with a 2-1/2" Leek blade, or if CRKT knew anything about knifemaking, an Otonashi Noh Ken with a Heiho blade. I just like the ergonomics of a larger handle with a shorter blade, even if the package isn't truly size-efficient.

True, but I was hoping to avoid that expense. Actually, if the blade mass decreases but the spring tension stays the same, wouldn't the opening speed increase? This is from what little I know/understand of physics--not much--so if I'm wrong, please let me know.

Based on the specs, the handle on the Cryo II (4 3/8") will only be be 1/8" longer than that on the Delica (4 1/4")... versus the Endura, which is 5". The upcoming Thermite might be a good fit. Specs say it's 4 7/8" closed w/ 3 1/2" blade. If you really just want a shorter blade, I suppose you could grind it down some (although you'd be grinding away the spanto tip, which I think is one of the more notable features of that particular knife). The Scrambler is also about the same size as the Shallot. It also has a 3 1/2" blade though.

From memory, I can't think of any knives with a ~5" handle and ~2.5" blade though. Most of those will tend to have a longer blade.

Thanks. I actually got an opportunity to trade into a Cryo, which just came today. Great build quality, but despite the ability to get four fingers on the grip, it's too slick and feels much less secure than the Trance despite increased thickness. Looks like I'll have to pre-order a Thermite, then make a decision about the blade. The Scrambler might suffer the same issues of being too slick.
