I would like to know if anyone has had a knife cryogenically treated. I am having a rifle done and the company said that they would do my knives for just a few dollars more if I sent them with the rifle. If it's worth doing I'm going to send them four of my Beckers. Any info or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks..............sd550

You may get more info in Blade Discussion. My Camillus Blaze and Sizzle are cryo edged and get VERY sharp. I don't know if that treatment has anything to do with them getting so sharp. This is all I know, on this subject.

I searched around on the subject at one point and I wish I could remember the source and link to it, but in short I got the impression that cryo was best used on more complex (stainless) steels which can benefit from the additional refinement. Simpler non-stainless steels like the ones in the Becker line will already be closer to the ideal state of refinement and therefore they will benefit less from cryo treatment. However people still pay a lot of extra money to get cutting katanas with cryo treatment, and those are made of simpler non-stainless steels.

In short I'd say that I'd probably do it if it was cheap just to see the effects, but I wouldn't pay a lot for it.
