I have one of the satin/Axis/aluminum AK47's inbound, I have researched here and on the Tube' looking for information. This model looks to have steel liners under the aluminum slabs, looks interesting. Anybody have one? Are they getting harder to find? Thanks.

I owned one before the current AK. It is solid but id recommend the new one for a huge improvement in grip and the tri-ad lock.

I have a few G10/Triad's, this was more of a impulse buy as it is in brand new condition for a fair price (I think). When I saw it was the discontinued aluminum version it piqued my interest. I will only regret the purchase if I come to the conclusion that I should have just picked up the Code 4 I wanted instead......but they will be around for awhile.

Gotcha, yeah. In that case for the fun factor and history it is certainly fun.
Enjoy. Id love to see pics comparing it to current models or the new AK

I had the old Ultra Lock AK in G10 and the liners were skeletonized. The blade stock is 4mm vs. the 3.7 or whatever they are now running. It was a blocky, large knife and very heavy. The aluminum will be even heavier FYI.

Thanks for the info guys, I knew it wasn't going to be the most comfortable in hand and had to be on the heavy side. I had a ultra/G10/AK awhile back, I just have not seen a lot of these around so I went for it. I'm probably going to mod it anyway, that pocket clip and "strike" pommel have to go.

Pittsburgh brother, headed to CS booth this weekend in Monroeville?

Yes, they certainly are, I wanted one, and searched Ebay for years, they are rarely up for sale. Found one at a Pawn shop for a steal! They do have steel liners under the aluminum. they are EXCELLENT knives, and might be worth a bit on down the road. They quit selling the EXCELLENT "Ultra-Lock" version, and they claim the new, liner-less ones are stronger! Uh, I don't know about that, aluminum and steel, versus liner-less G10, hmm. They are better, in my opinion than the new ones, and I carry an old G10 AK-47 as one of my EDC'c, it is smoothed out so well that I can "flick" it open with the "Ultra-Lock" by inertia! I would like to know which lock is stronger, the TRIAD or the Ultra-Lock, but I think it is not that simple. The older ones have steel liners and therefore are reinforced better, the new ones may have the ultra-Lock, but since they are not steel reinforced, the potential superior strength of the TRIAD isn't fully realized. At least that is my opinion, based on 25+ years of daily knife carry and use (abuse once in a while!)

Like I said elsewhere, what are you guys complaining about? You'll carry a cell phone or "cry-pad" all day, and happily, and they are as heavy, or heavier! I carry EDC- A Spartan, a Becker Necker san mai steel, a COG Powerlock, and a pocketknife, in addition to other tools, flashlight, razorknife for boxes, wallet and keys, keychain tools and etc.I DO NOT carry a cell phone or "cry pad"! Every day, and I am almost 40, with arthritis, bad back (No, not due to all the stuff I carry) and bad knees!

Thought I'd look for an open thread on this knife before posting and, BAM!, here it is :D

Just received one of these today and it is awesome. Sure, it's blocky, heavy, rides high in the pocket.... but it looks like a bad ass beast and is super comfortable in hand! It will probably remain on house/yard/desk duty but that is well worth it to me. Love aluminum knives and this one couldn't look or feel any cooler, in my opinion.

Bring on more aluminum handles, Cold Steel!:thumbup:

I too like my older ultra-lock AK-47s' in both the G-10 and aluminium version. Unlike the newer ones without steel liners but a strong Tri-ad lock.I've been meaning to make a back spacer out of stainless steel or aluminium with a glass breaker.
