CS AK47 - Where are all these 2010 models coming from?

Hi,

I've been looking around to buy a new or used (hint, hint) CS AK47 and have seen a ton of AK47 model 58TLAK, all of which are described as 2010 models with AUS8a steel.

Are these of new manufacture? Is CS still manufacturing a six year old model? Or is this older stuff they had sitting around in a warehouse somewhere and are just now trying to sell?

I ask because CS has a newer version of the AK47 out, model 58TLCAK, with a different, and CS says, better steel, CTS XHP. This is reputedley a heat treated alloy which I know nothing about.

Does anybody here know the story behind this? Is CS still manufacturing AK47s using the same design and materials they used in 2010 even though they have a newer, different AK47 model out?

Thanks.

No, from what I've seen they're not making anymore AUS8 products hence they are fire selling the old aus8 stock. A lot of resellers still have a big supply of them though

That makes sense.

I just ordered one on Amazon with Amazon as the listed seller for $55 and change. There was one for about $5 less from a different seller but I prefer using Amazon as a seller when I can. Hassle free returns with Amazon are done fast, simply and with no questions asked.

I saw quite a few knockoffs on ebay and I think a few real ones. The what I think were real ones on ebay are around $50 too. But once again, I opted to go with Amazon in case I have a problem with the new knife.

If you look in the right places, the price now for the Cold Steel AK47 model #58TLAK is about 1/3 or less than when they first came out. I wanted one for a long time but I wasn't about to shell out $150 - $180 for one.

And Seilu, thanks for your theory. I bet that's the truth of what's happening.

It's great because if you want the aus8 for a lesser price you can get that, if you want to spend a little more and get XHP you can do that too. I see XL voyager tantos in aus8 for about $45 on Amazon and I'm tempted to just pickup 5 of them!

Although I would personally recommend the new steels as they are much tougher than AUS8, and offer much better edge retention for only $20-30 more

I understand what you're saying. And it's inarguable. Better steel is better steel. But from my experience there's always a "latest and greatest" steel coming down the pike.

Now, I've owned a fair number of AUS8 blades over quite a few years. It's a decent steel. If you like a knife you tend to take care of it, or at least I do. AUS8 doesn't demand a lot of tedious care.

Rust has never been a problem with me and AUS8. I lube it when it needs it and sharpen it at the first signs of dulling. It's a pretty easy steel to sharpen and it holds an edge for a good long time unless you're really using the hell out of it.

So if I can save some $ by going with AUS8, I do it. Taking care of a knife isn't really a chore for me, it's a pleasure.

Is this review from that site where you got 2010 model?: "This AK-47 is the new 2010 offering based on the original AK-47 model, main difference is an updated locking mechanism, which is supposed to be stronger". If so, that review was posted on " April 17, 2010", that could be when that evolution of the AK came out. So it would be like a review of the new CTS model that was posted in the last few weeks.

You lost me, man.

Sorry... I guess I combined thoughts from your initial post and that of another post when they referenced where they were considering purchasing from and I didn't see that they mentioned "2010 model" anywhere in the description on that site other than in that review I quoted.
