So I was bored last night. Broke out the Lawman and thought I would take off the Teflon coating. To my surprise the blade is stonewashed! I was thinking that I was going to remove the coating and then try some acid etching, but I really like the way this looks. :D What do you guys think?

Dang that looks sweet. What year model is that? I stripped all the coating (if you can call it that) off mine and I think mine was just a satin finish. Then again I just used sand paper and elbow grease which may have scratched the stonewash if it was there. Did you use a chemical to remove it?

Thanks :D I used a fine steelwool and a lot of rubbing. Not sure on the year model though. It is the newer model without the liners.

As is mine. Got it in late 2011 I believe.

I started at a low grit 60 I believe and got up maybe 600. I wasn't patient enough nor knew enough to get a mirror finish which is what I was aiming for so I'll eventually go back over it. I sanded down all the parts that had Teflon on it inside and out. Try to make it kind of look like a fixed blade as an ode to the Tri Ads strength. Great knife that doesn't get carried as much as it deserves.

I honestly wish cold steel would quit with the whole black coating thing. I mean, it's not a big deal to me either way but I'd definitely prefer something like what you've done with your lawman or what cold steel does with the voyagers. Man that's a nice looking blade, nice job.

I only did the blade and not the back spacer on the lock. Maybe something to do tonight? It started two nights ago. I took it apart to polish the area around the washers. The coating came off pretty easily and it didn't look stone washed there. So last night I just thought I might as well do the whole blade, and I was pleasantly surprised. This is a great knife and I don't carry it as much either. For me personally I think it was the coating on the blade. It made the knife look cheap. But now... I am down right proud to show this baby off :D I like the two tone you did with the blade. It looks pretty cool

Thanks Navy! CS could do so much better with the coating. It seems like as soon as you cut something it scratches off anyway, so whats the point?

Thanks!
The paint on the lock came off as easily as the blade but the back spacer at the butt was a little bit tougher. I think it is a different metal because the coating felt a bit more ingrained into it. Maybe aluminum.

Agreed

Why not do the 'normal' thing and offer coated AND uncoated? I understand blade coatings on outdoor knives using 1095, etc. but with what cold steel offers with their folder line I don't get it.

I agree also, why coat that nice stonewash with that black stuff I can't understand. I removed the coating as well, looks SO much better
