Anyone else have one on order? I was dismissive of this product when first discussed but looked again and I just had to get it. I plan to mod it along the lines of the CS trailhawk work we see here and post to this thread.

Got a present from CS in the mail today, look how sweet they are:

I like the oblong shape of the handle, rides in the hand real well:

Sort of graceless next to its friends:

Note: the head is attached to the haft in a typical 'hatchet' manner, entering the head from the bottom and there's a metal wedge driven in from the top. So will be a tricky mod, not the usual way you can do hawks.

Its listed weight makes me wonder how wieldable this would be as a weapon. Do let us know how it handles.

I like the attitude of that little axe. Something about it...

Ya, you're right Pullrich, better send it off to me. ;-))
I really like that, what does it weigh?

Best regards

Robin

I like the thick, flat back of the head..would be great for hammering I think.

Good to see someone has one in hand. Looking for more info/impressions when you get a chance.

I usually like CS's "odd" stuff like this and will likely pick one up down the road.

First thing I thought when I saw the gang hatchet was that it may work well as a carpenter's axe. The cheeks may need to be thinned out for that purpose, but it has good weight and a straight edge. I may pick one up to mod. How well does their 1055 hold an edge?

Glad to see it arrived. Have you done any mod's to it yet? I want something a little heavier than a hawk but not a full size to keep in the truck toolbox. Would love to hold one, you know how that goes LOL.

No mods yet, not sure what to do with it. Today I hit the edge with a needle file for a few minutes and then used it to break up some 2" - 5" fir and maple limbs.
Very easy to handle, the wide style of the handle keeps it oriented properly and the grip tight. I like the length of the handle, too, and mostly used a 2-hand grip, now and then choking up on it to break twigs off the limbs. Cut straight through most of the limbs I was dealing with in one swipe. Overall did a lot better at this sort of the work than the other cold steel axes I've used: trailhawk, frontier, rifleman. No surprise there, this is really more of a proper work hatchet than a hawk, IMO.
