CS CAT Tanto: Anyone have one?

On my desk. Works great as a letter opener. Fits the leather sheath that comes with the real steel tantos, but weighs less than the sheath...

i bought a couple about 5 yrs ago.sharpened them with an emery board.
still i wouldn't call them sharp and i only bought them because they were cheap(5.00)and they looked kinda cool:cool:

It is what you'd expect in a zytel knife. When preparing food, I cut some steak to see if it would cut. I was able to cut one strip of meat off the raw steak and then it was too dull to cut. I'm pretty sure it might make one cut on skin but probably not much more. The Delta dart or CIA Letter Opener are better choices IMO. Zytel knives are not utility knives. Even a United Cutlery 420J2 blade would be better for utility or even defensive use. Zytel knives are pretty much for specialized purposes like total corrosion resistance if you can't afford titanium, not setting off magnetic mines, or getting past metal detectors. Most people buy them just to have.

Thanks, guys. I guess it was meant for stabbing then. Just thought it would be fun to have. Thanks again.

I got one for free when I placed an order somewhere about 5 years ago. Right around the same time, one of the local niteclubs started in with the metal detectors, leave your coats outside (even if it's -10 degrees outside), no hats (don't wear one usually anyway), and a bunch of other stuff. This place has lots of fights, so I don't blame them. I took the CAT there for a while, just for a little peace of mind. Then they raised the beer prices a bunch, and I was outta there:D . Haven't been back in about 3 years.

Have had mine for almost a year. Sucker drew blood too. I damn near wet myself laughing. The story:

I had to work a post at 1430 so I woke up real early and went out to cruise the gun and knife show that weekend. Made a few purchases and one of them was the CAT. Went straight from the show to work. A buddy of mine that worked with me took the CAT out of my bag (sorry couldn't help it) and started to play with it. He made several comments "wow this is cool" "pretty neat" and the like. He then tested the edge with his thumb, laying the meaty part of his thumb across the blade he comments "you know this is almost sharp enough to cut with" saying that he runs his thumb down the blade and about shits himself when he realises he might just need stitches. I was on the floor laughing for most of the evening. I still bug him about it.

Nowadays I just keep it in the shower. It's kinda comforting knowing that ANYWHERE in my house there is a blade just within reach. I think it's a sweet little piece and wouldn't hesitate to grab another one.

I have one. I made a trainer out of it. It had a meat edge for about 15 seconds, and then opening a letter it was gone. I put serrations on it, which helped a lot, it would tear flesh then, or I guess it would based on my testing.
If its going to be Zytel, it should only be looked at as a stabbing weapons. Even with a G-10 blade, its pretty much a stabber, although the serrations on G-10 blades wont deform like on Zytel so it has some cutting ability.
The only non-metallic blades I've worked with that could really cut meat, and do so repeatedly, are those made from Carbon Fiber.
