Opinions? Looks like it would be a great kitchen knife for food prep, especially for chopping up onions, potatoes, etc. Plus it just looks really neat!

Not a bad time to try one. On sale over on the Cold Steel site for 60 bucks.

Is this more regarding the one-piece construction or the drop forged method?

One-piece because it's stronger and you dont have to worry about handle coming loose, and the less of a weak point between the blade and the tang.

Drop forged because it's cheaper to mass produce than stock removal IMO(less wasteful of the material and grinding tool). Also different people have different opinion(also subject to variables like material used and manufacturing method), but i think forging make it stronger.

Refer to the manufacturing of axes or hammers for example, it probably doesn't make sense to grind/CNC them.

On sale for $12.95 at Optics Planet:Cold Steel Utility Knife, Kraton Handle, 6.00 in. 59KUZ. I bought two and they are awesome, even soaking wet greasy hands and no slip, incredibly sharp. I have found the serrated blades staying sharp longer too.
 
I almost picked up a drop forged hunter a little while ago. Glad that I waited if they are coming coated now. Looking toward the survivalist with curiosity/interest also.
