I have a couple of Cold Steel folding knives .

There are screws holding the clips against to the handle.
and there are screws holding the handle scales .

Do these screws stay tight after years of using the knife or is it possible they get loose and/or lost?

What I mean is ..
I have a Spyderco Byrd, which is a good knife/cutter, but two out of the three screws holding the clip are gone.
I have done nothing extreme to the knife ,just cutting packages ,cardboard, stuff like that.
They seemed to have gotten loose in some way without me noticing it .
I also read about Becker handle screws getting loose when the knife is being used.

How are the screws holding up in the Cold Steel folding knives .

I like the knives by the way.
The light weight. The tri ad lock which feels pretty safe/strong to me.
And the looks.

I know of loctite.
Is that needed in the Cold Steel folding knives like the Recon 1 ,AK47 American Lawman, or is it allright the way it is.

I cannot speak specifically to CS, but many companies: Hinderer, CRK advise against the use of LocTite on anything but the pivot. The CRK Sebbie 25 and the Zaan at least. I know Hinderer says don't. I have not carried and CS folders, but of the folders I carry, I have not had any screws come loose. I think the loose screw is me. :)

I know this doesn't answer your specific brand question, but it's just my findings.

My CS folders make the terrible mistake of threading the clip screws into aluminum instead of steel. The issue is that screws in aluminum are rather easily over torqued and the threads stripped. Aluminum works for a handle scale, can work for the arm of a frame lock (with a steel insert like the SR1A), but it is not too good for a backspacer or place to thread handle or clip screws in.

Why do they advise against using loctite? Screws are more likely to loosen without tread lock.

I read somewhere that disassembling the knife might void the warranty(Cold Steel knives).
No loctite on handle screws? That's interesting. Why ..
It might be that the screws in the CS handles are already glued in place. It wouldn't surprise me at all.

You're not the only loose screw though.
Here's another one :foot:

Yes , aluminium threads.. but there are also several that have the screws into G10.
That's why I'm a bit weary of getting the screws out. I have no plans to anyway.
If they stay fixed the way they are, I'm allright with that. For some cleaning I am not going to unscrew the whole knife .
In fact , chances are that if you do that a few times the screw holes will get 'screwed' so to speak.

Yes good question.
