It's fine, just fine. . .

I prefer the Voyager and Gunsite to be G-10 or CF.

I prefer its fixed tanto series to be something else rather than "rubber". . .stag or exotic wood.

I wish.

I have owned a couple of their fixed blade tanto's over the years.I was always amazed at the edge they put on those knives. They make an excellent quality product except for those horrible kraton grips. If they would utilize other materials besides kraton,I would consider purchasing one of the products.Wood, micarta, stag, bone etc.Until then no CS products for me(hint-hint).Ralph

Almost bought a old model Cold Steel tanto I saw at a local hardware store until I asked to handle it. The tacky feel of the Kraton really put me off. Fit and finish were really good, and the edge honing was superb, though. Cold Steel really should look into alternative grips.

Kraton is cheap and easy to mould around handles and does give a secure grip for awhile, at least until it gives you blisters from pulling at your skin. I have this recurring fantasy about getting a CS Tanto and stripping off the grip. Then get a friendly craftsman to afix a pair of Cocobolo slabs.

Hell, why don't I just save myself the hassle and order a RJ Martin or Steve Corkum custom.

I don't have any problems with CS's aggressive advertising, and Lynn Thompson's claims like some people.

The only problem I have with CS is that I wish they would get out of the 1990's and into the 21st century and change with times.

They stubbornly stand-by their Zytel/AUS-8/lockback knives. Even if Lynn Thompson feels that these are superior knives, why doesn't he adapt to changing market tastes?

Many of us want other options in handles like G-10, or titanium. We also want a minimum requirement of ATS-34 or 154CM steel. Who cares what your studies show about the superiority of AUS-8A? It's not a question of who's right and who's wrong. It's a question of: Give us what we want!

Lockbacks? I know CS claims that their lockbacks can withstand 100 lbs of negative load, but we want liner-locks, frame locks, axis-type locks, etc. Even Spyderco is working on new locks, and safeties!

I say this only because I want to enjoy CS products, and can't in their current guise. Please Cold Steel, give the public what we want!

I don't have any problem with CS offerings. I believe Lynn Thompson is the sort that is going to offer what he thinks the best product is, and that's served him pretty well up to this point. If the market chooses to move on to other styles, other steels, etc., he'll have the choice of changing to keep up and staying in business or sticking to his guns and watching his sales fall.

That's the beauty of a free-market economy.

For you knifeaholics that like Cold Steel's line of products, but not their choices for handle material, come talk to me. I offer Knife Repair and Conversions, for info and a photo of a CS Trailmaster conversion, visit this page on my Web-site. www.sunrisecustomknives.com/repair.html

I just recived a CS Gurkha Kukri, from a customer out in CA. He likes the blade for clearing brush and camp use, but can't stand the handle. I'm going to give him a good solid brass finger guard, and Black Linen Micarta handle. When it's finished I'll post a photo of it too.
So, what can I do for you?

Best Regards,
Jay Maines
