My wooden block inside the kitchen currently holds a mix of the following:
- Miracle Blade lll (almost 20 yrs old and still cut relatively well, never sharpened)…yes, feel free to laugh.
- Several of those totally nondescript kitchen knives with the black handles that are held together with those round metal studs (from Wally World)
- And one large Henkel Chef knife (Made in Spain)…cost $50 when I purchased it about 20 yrs back.

So I’m eyeing the CS Kitchen Classic set…anyone have it and how do you like it? Looks like it’s still made in Taiwan. Any issues with rust and do you hand wash or just toss in dishwasher?

I picked up this set about a year ago. I really like it. Have only needed to touch up the chefs knife a few times but it still had a decent edge. Haven’t needed to sharpen any of the others yet. The steak knives get used the most besides the chefs knife and they still cut through a ribeye very cleanly. This is my first experience with 4116 and it performs well in the kitchen. I enjoy the handles more than I thought I would. Grippy but not rubbery. I experimented with the dishwasher and the steak knives and did get some minor rust spotting that came off easily enough with a light buff of steel wool. Decided to hand wash them instead just to keep them as nice as possible. That said my well water is pretty hard so probably also a factor. Overall really glad I tried this set as I had a bunch of mismatched Wally knives with mystery steel before and this was a massive upgrade.

Thanks for the input! The only negative thing I’ve read about this set is the appearance of rust. The handles do look nice, that caught my eye right away.

Since switching to hand washing there has been no rust at all. I also forgot to mention the block itself is quite nice looking. If I were to ever upgrade any of the pieces I would be keeping the block. As of right now though, I would say nothing really needs an upgrade for my amount of use.

I own a few commercial-grade chefs knives, and the cold steel is the one I reach for the most. A victorinox is second, and some no-name steak knives are third.

The steel scratches very easily so don't use much abrasive materials to clean. After well over 5 years they're holding up great. Sure wish I took cold steel up on the replacement large chef knife that I gouged up with deep scratches after the first wash lol that ship has long sailed away

I'd also recommend order a cpl spare steak knives In case one walks away
