Hello, I was just wondering about the Kopis machete from Cold Steel. The design of this machete is just freaking awesome, and m question is will they be comming out with a tougher steel version (Carbon V) of it like they do there other machetes like the Kukris? Or is there anyone out there that can make custom one out of 1095 or Carbon V? I know the 1055 is good but not the best for a longer blade.

Have you checked out the knife makers section here? We have mny incredible makers here!! You might find a maker that has or will make what you want.

Moving from Custom & Handmade to General Knife discussion.

GreySteel, CS no longer has access to the old Carbon V manufacturing facilities, since that was done by Camillus. Actually, "Carbon V" was the blanket term for whatever high carbon steel they might have had used for their contracts.

They've switched to designating the actual steel now.

1055 is actually better than "Carbon V" for a large blade. 1055 is very tough - doesn't hold an edge as well as higher carbon steels, but edge holding isn't as important as toughness in impact work, which is what a large knife is supposed to do. For a tough machete, 1055 is better than 1095, too. Unless, of course, instead of chopping and such, you intend to just cut materials with it - in which case I'd recommend getting a smaller knife much more suitable for the job. ;)

The CS machetes are fun, and they hold up well. I wouldn't worry abpout wearing it out, unless you plan on trekking through the jungles someplace for a long time. Besides, they can usually be had for under $20. At that price, get a back up, and don't worry about it. Personally I prefer the 12" barong model.

havent had any problems with the CS machete line yet, they come a little dull but that can be fixed.

getting the sticker off is easy too, make another thread when u wanna know how to do it without ripping.

Thank you for all your replys, right now thne I am looking at either the CS Kopis or the 18"-22" Heavy Duty Ontario Machete. I am a landscaper so I don't know where to do, I am thinking Ontario because it is tougher, but that Kopis is so freaking awesome looking, as well as the Ontario but you know. Also what about a Kopis in a 1095?

I have a kopis, and I love it! IMO, the handle is more comfortable than their 18 in. kukri's. It works very well on green vegetation, and it bites surprisingly deep into green wood(about1-1.5in.). It has a pretty-darn big sweet spot.

I like it, it sharpens easily, but, the only thing is that if you stab the knife into a tree, about a third of an inch of the tip will bend. Mine has several times, and i just stick it in the other way, and give a little pressure. the tip is still sharp and very strong for slashing.
