Does anyone have any thoughts as to which would be a better choice for a long term survival trip. I have seen/handled the ColdSteel Light Kukri and I like it, but I am also interested in the Ontario RTAK. I have not seen/handled on of these yet. I was hoping that some of you guys would have experience with both and could tell me which would be the best choice.

Thanks,

Jason

I can't speak for the Cold Steel Kukri, but the Ontario RTAK is one heck of a knife for the money. I just got mine and am definately pleased. Besides, I prefer the RTAK's Micarta grips over Cold Steel's Kraton handle.;)

I have not had any experience with the light weight kukri, but the RTAK is the bomb. I think the blade length and weight are perfect, and mine has been recieving a good beating at limb loping, chopping 2-3" branches, and it is very easy to get razor sharp again. Definitey a great field tool.

is the handle on the RTAK slippery?

I was curious about it and had not had the chance of cheking it out yet!

thanks

i have an original livesay rtak, and the handle is great wet or dry. i think jeff randle insisted on a micarta handle for the rtak because of the gripping properties of the micarta. and i have an atc kukri from cold steel, i think that the handle on the rtak is superior in every way to the rubber handled kukri.

Not at all slippery. The Micarta scales offer a solid grip even when your hand are wet. For the price, the RTAK is one heck of a great deal for a knife it's size.

where are you going to be using it?
