Who here own's a cold steel laredo bowie, just wanted to get some feedback, pros and cons to this knife,is it a user or is it a trophy knife.
I've seen the dvd featuring this knife but I can't see myself stabbing car hood's and such!!
The knife itself looks fairly decent, probably could use a better sheath I figure.

The stainless one is WAY overpriced.

If you mean the SK-5 version, like this one:

IMO, it's more of a "trophy"/display knife, + less of a hard use one.

Although I'm sure its strong, I personally don't think user knives should be made with 1/2 tangs having a piece of wire welded on the end, with the wire secured to the handle/butt.

For $199 retail (~$120 street price) you can get a better user bowie---even from Cold Steel. Their SK-5 Trailmaster is ~2/3rds or less of the cost of the SK-5 Laredo.

I love the looks, but wish I could get a Carbon V model for around $100. I think this model has always been very over priced. I would buy one for the right price, but not for what they are asking.

Good luck on getting a Carbon V version for $100 - they bring a premium now.

I've got a trailmaster and a recon tanto made out of carbon v and the new gurkha kukri made out of sk-5 and I don't really see a difference. The kukri is just amazing,I have cut tons with this knife, resharped it with some ceramic rods and is shaving sharp again ready to go.The tailmaster V is pretty much the same.
So if the laredo react's the same I'll be happy.

I've owned all three versions of the Laredo (Carbon V, VG-1 San Mai III, SK-5) and in every flavor it is impressive. Big, sharp, heavy, broad blade. Nicely balanced. Well made sheath. And, no, I wouldn't call this a trophy knife; it will more than do what you need a camp knife to do. Don't fixate on getting a full tang knife unless you plan to beat the hell out of it, and even then I really doubt you'd see any sort of handle failure with the Laredo, especially with the micarta on the VG-1 San Mai III version.

I have a Trail Master in San Mai III....

It aint perfect for sure, but it gives me a semi every time I pick it up.

Every knife lover should own a bowie - they are the last word in knives IMO.
