CS LTC Failure

LOL......but it's sad at the same time too.

Blades sometimes fail - happens. that's why you need a rock-solid warranty.

It is likely that Cold Steel will replace this blade...well, that would be my guess. Probably a bad blade based on the description of how it failed. I imagine these blades are uniformly hard and would be less able to withstand a sideways strike as compared to a differentially hardened blade, especially with a flaw in the steel.

It's funny. I have a LTC. My wife gave it to me as a gift before I knew about HI khuks. I thought, at the time, that the LTC would be a great khuk. as compared to the tourist junker khuks. we are all familiar with. Not sure where the LTC fits in my plans now that I have a few HI blades.

My fear is not that it is a bad blade but that it is one of many. I mean... I didnt't fully explain in the other thread... I used the heck out of this kukri. it took apart a pair of goodly sized trees after the 'canes we had down here some months ago. If it didn't break then I can't help but think that it wasn't a manufacturing defect or qc issue.

After a couple thousand swings maybe the stress is just too much for the carbon steel as ht'd in this knife? I think maybe something along those lines coupled with a mistake on my part might have been enough to do it in.

Either way, its furthered my decision to try out some HI khuks.

That's something that can happen with all tools. I reckon with mass produced thing a ma bobs you could possibly get batches that are flawed. With hand made stuff you might get one bad one, but there are fewer made. Sorta leaves you in the same place. All stuff can break at some point or other.

I guess you test things as best as you can to lower the risk of something breaking and have a back up plan in case it does.

It happens. I'm currently arguing with my car dealership over a recall that applies to my car, but they're denying it. If only things in the automotive world were as simple as they are in the knife world.

For the record, I've only had positive experiences with CS and their products, from folders to swords. They ought to replace it.

Also, just figured I'd mention it here...I've got a khuk coming from a well-known (but not CS) manufacturer for a little destructive testing. It's backordered. When it arrives, I'll be sure to post a comparison. Names will not be mentioned, of course.

I'd always hesitated when I thought about buying a cold steel khuk from their catalog when I used to get it. That general area on the blade looks like it takes the most stress when you chop with it. On real khuks this isn't as true, because it's more mass and less brute arm strength that does the work, and the soft, really thick steel on the spine helps to dampen and spread out the load.
