I own a cold steel pre 2010 ak-47 with the ultra lock system

It is by far my favorite pocket knife

So now I am eyeing a pocket bushman I know that there were problems with it I've seen nutnfancy's video and the one where the blade broke was his fault in my opinion but whatever

I just want to get your opinions and user reviews, should I just save my money and not by it even though I just want to edc with it

Great folder, cheap and rugged, long blade and very strong lock. Need to get used to how to operate the lock a little bit.

Not super steel blade and handle can be a bit slippery and a little thin. Grip can be improved by getting something like skateboard tape to stick on the sides.

The pocket bushman was one of the first knives I bought after I found BF and became more interested in knives in general. The purchase was based in part on all the reports, both good and bad, about the knife and partly because it did appear to be a very "interesting" knife. The purchase was also based in part on all the threads about Cold Steel. So for $25 I got to find out first hand about three different topics of interest spurred by my discovery of this forum.

In my opinion the pocket bushman is a huge folder, too big for edc(but that is me). I have not had any problems with the lock but you do have to be careful in closing the knife. It just takes common sense and being careful but it is not some scary beast waiting to cut off your fingers, although it is capable of doing just that but then many knives can.

The blade came very sharp and has pretty much retained the edge. Yes, I tried all the different things I had been reading about and this knife will baton(but the spine will become scarred) It is not much for chopping as it is too light.

I am not disappointed with the knife but don't really have a use for it. It looks kind of like a folder on steroids so I just keep it in a drawer.

It was not a waste of money but I would not buy it again and the only reason I would recommend it is for the same reasons I bought it-just to see what all the brouhaha is about with this knife.

I have one. I can see bringing it along camping for food prep, with that long blade, or using it to clear light underbrush from your path. It's pretty big for EDC.

The lock-up is all-too-reliable -- it can be difficult to close. The shape of the handle will give you a good workin grip on it, though, despite what seems like a thin, slippery (metal) handle. I haven't had a problem holding on while using it.

I am a big guy so knife size can be a little on the larger size I have EDCed with a crkt natural but it's to pretty and I don't want to scratch the bone up

Because of the two handed opening and closing?

You can open it one-handed, but not quickly. I really don't see how you can close it one-handed, but some people on these forums have claimed to be able to do it.

I'll agree with what has been said previously. It's a great outdoor folder, and would make a superb back-up to your primary fixed blade, especially for the price. But for EDC you really want something that opens and closes with less hassle, and that indexes more naturally in your hand. If you want an EDC that size, I can personally recommend the Benchmade Rukus, if you can still find one.

Lots of handle room and sturdy lockup. It rides very low profile but is killer on your hand w/o gloves.

I keep a Pocket Bushman as a backup knife in the tool or tackle box.

Ok I get what your saying maybe I will just get it for the cool factor

The thing is I never really thought it as cumbersom I thought it would be as easy as closing a buck 110

+1

I can tell you from my own personal experience, you can baton the knife and all you'll get is radial blade play, I'd recommend a cord wrap or gloves if you plan on using the knife for anything more than short & easy work.

Great value in this knife.

Once you get used to closing it, it is not too difficult. I got one that I constantly open and close while thinking in the office, I am trying to induce wear to make the rod go on deeper. It is fun for me though a two handed operation.

Give it a go, it is in my opinion, ridiculously cheap for what's it capable of.

In fact my ideal folder is a custom pocket bushman. I'd like one with folded titanium handles, some g10 scales and a more decent blade steel. And all with thicker material. But it remains a dream :)
