I've been very impressed by these knives. I have both the I and the II, and the I is astoundingly made. Its AUS8 blade is polished to a nice, almost mirror shine. Its frame is milled from 7075 aluminum and the scales are polished G10. It's gorgeous. The II, on the other hand, is made from molded Grivory, and the blade on mine was ground in two directions, horizontal and vertical. While a bit distracting from a cosmetic standpoint, it did polish up well and is now almost unnoticeable.

Both knives have the Tri-Ad locks, which are the strongest on the market, but for all the beauty of the Rajah I, I can't bring myself to use it. In all fairness, the II is probably stronger; however, I wonder why the Rajah I was discontinued. Price? Lack of sales? I bought mine when CS was offering them for a substantial savings. They were then discontinued.

I had planned to sell my Rajah I at first, because I had a few IIs and the I was just too purty to use. Then I considered giving it as a gift, but it ended up in my safe. Although I wouldn't have bought it at its $300+ retail price, I thought had I actually seen one initially, I probably would have spent the extra $$$. I don't buy custom knives because of their cost, this is one I would have bought for its beauty. Now it's gone from my safe to my bugout bag.

To those of you who bought the Rajah I, did you keep it? And are you using it? Or are you saving it and using a Rajah II?

The knives are great, but I wonder if the aluminum frame of the I in any way weakens it? The II has to be one of the greatest knives in my collection from a utility standpoint, and the company's Konja knives and Rajah I are two of the most beautiful; but again, I buy knives mostly for their utility.

I originally bought the II because I wasnt willing to pay the extra money for the I. However, once CS put it on sale I immediately purchased one and I am very glad I did. I agree that it is a beautiful knife which is why I use the II for any real work. I keep the I in its pristine condition. I just cant bring myself to using it. Not that its a problem, I am perfectly fine with keeping it as a collectors piece.

I passed on the 1 due to price, and missed the clearance deal a while back.

I do have the 2 and it's a user.

The Rajah I is a knife I really regret passing on when it was on clearance. That was an absolute bargain.

I have the I, II & III... I rarely use the I because I want to keep it forever, lol... the II gets some use and the III is in my EDC rotation...

I would bet the I is much stronger than II. Those thick aluminum slabs are extremely tough.

In terms of it being discontinued, the price was definitely high. The current Espada series isn't cheap either, but such big folders and Tri-Ad lock wasn't as popular at the time - really wasn't until more marketing was done for the updated Recon folders and Espadas.

I think if they brought the I back now it would probably do pretty well.

I'm keeping the one I have, an Espada XL doesn't fit my pocket lol. Cold Steel does owe me one from an online order they never got back to me about, I wonder if they still got some laying around :p

I picked a Rajah I up when it was on clearance just to see what the whole megafolder thing was about. I ended up selling it recently because, although it was fun to have around as a novelty at first, I was just never going to carry or use it. Still, I have to agree that it was a beautiful, very well-made knife.
